Globe Telecom’s Mobile Internet Business Models Highlighted at MobileWorld Congress Shanghai

Philippine number one mobile brand Globe Telecom led the discussion on its digital and mobile business models at a panel session alongside representatives from the largest companies in Asia and the World at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2015

Globe Head of Strategy & Corporate Development for Consumer Business Benett Aquino discussed “Business Models for the Future of Mobile Internet”, further expounding on the advantages of a mobile first service, growth of partnerships, products and services, and strategies for reaching different markets.

Alongside Aquino are known luminaries in the mobile industry. These include Peter Greenberger of Twitter, Mausam Bhatt of Flipkart, and Pranay Jivrajka of OlaCabs.

Aquino shared the advantages of having a mobile-first service and consumers. “We see that our mobile-first users usually have a pattern of heavy app usage especially for social networking, content consumption, and mobile gaming. This has been made possible as mobile devices and connectivity are portable and always available for the customer. The expectation is to have a growth of penetration in the use of smartphones and Internet data as new up and coming services like crowdsourcing apps and customized content namely Spotify are now available. “

With extensive transformation to give better service to its customers, Globe embraces partnerships and offers products and services that keep up with the rapidly evolving customer behavior and trends. “ Globe gives customers value-for-money services with the best experience possible. Content partnerships with the likes of Disney, NBA, and Facebook drives the shift of the customer from use of core services to the adoption of data. Having strong governance and apt strategies that drive the company to the right direction will allow us to give products and services that are tailor-fitted to the needs of the customer,” added Aquino.

Aquino concluded by looking forward to extending the company's reach to give services for different markets. He noted that it is imperative to know the customer and what they want through building partnerships and services that are most relevant. “In expanding the range of market, we need to plan clearly as to how we can address the needs of the people. Giving them incentives and deals such as free content made available upon subscription to promos and offers will kick-start data adoption.”

The MWC Shanghai is an annual exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference attended by executives and representatives of mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from all over the world. With the theme “Mobile Unlimited”, MWC Shanghai focused on how mobile technology revolutionizes and enhances an individual’s life.

Globe Telecom’s initiatives coming from its transformation posted remarkable results by end 2014. The company capped the previous year on a high note, catapulting to leadership in the Philippine telecommunications industry after posting record-breaking business results in its mobile business in 2014. This resulted to dominance in postpaid and mobile data businesses in revenue market share, making the telco the number 1 mobile brand in the country.

To sustain market leadership in this year, Globe is set to continue revolutionizing the mobile industry with services and offerings that enrich the mobile experience. Complementing its differentiated customer experience through modern network upgrades are its partnerships with global content providers such as Facebook, Viber, Spotify, NBA, online entertainment service HOOQ, and most recently, iconic entertainment brand Disney.
